JetBlue's tweeting clues to free tickets in NYC -

The first clue was to show up to Broadway & Dey St (right near my apartment!) with a birthday card. Because I was in class when I got the clue, I just barely missed out.

But I’ll be SO ready for the next clue!

Something weird happened today. After my 2-3:15 class, I walked out onto the Tisch Hall plaza (NYU’s version of a “quad” where students congregate). Anyway, it took a second or two before I noticed, but the students that were out on the plaza were… strange. Let me explain: 1) Many of them I didn’t recognize. 2) They were standing alone and distant from each other. And 3) They weren’t talking, just standing awkwardly.
To write it here, doesn’t fully capture how strange it looked. I thought it was a flash mob that was going to do an ImprovEverywhere-kind of performance. But after I had left to grab my lunch, everything was back to normal and there was no big applause or explanation of what it was.
To say the least, I’m confused and want answers.

I have a theory...

Look at your Facebook News Feed. There are two types of people there.

There are the people you interact with. You write on their wall. They send you a message. You invite them to events. They tag you in pictures. You poke them. They poke you.

Then there are people you have had absolutely no interaction with. Ever. They friended you years ago and you haven’t wrote, messaged, invited, tagged, or poked them during your entire relationship on Facebook. But there they are in your News Feed in the TOP NEWS section.

These are your stalkers.

The Latest NYC Bar Trend: ChatRoulette Parties -

Sarah Egan, one of the Union Hall redheads, had never heard of or played ChatRoulette until last night, but she felt similarly energized at having an audience behind her. Once seated at the computer she became a witty comedian, prodding and teasing strangers for the crowd’s delight. She was the most successful hostess of the night. “I prefer this to karaoke,” she said. “Singing to people never worked for me, but making fun of people at a rapid pace is very entertaining. I think this is going to become a huge thing.

I love to karoake.

I love to karoake.

This is not the kind of thing I want to see while I’m in the middle of my grad school applications. Wah.

Same goes for Undergrad. Except there ARE grades based on how well you play together.

Does your startup pass The Sleep Test? -

Most businesses start off with a founder selling their time and with the maximum earnable revenue being tightly limited by the founders available time. The founder works themselves into a stupor and at some point they go through what is often a difficult transition where they “step back” from the business and employ others to take over their various jobs. Many businesses don’t make this transition and it is the subject of much discussion in MBA programs world-wide.

Unless your business earns revenue while you are sleeping, it won’t scale.

Played “team chess” last night at Fat Cat. The rules: 2-person teams alternate taking turns for their side without talking or strategizing about the game. Incredibly challenging since you’re only good if you’re in sync with your partners’ moves too.
